Another bruise to try and hide

11 Oct

Ben came round ther other day to drop off the last of my things that I’d left at his.

I tried to be polite. I tried to have a conversation with him. He was in one of his moods, where you can’t agree with him without a row, you can’t disagree with him without a row. It’s one of those times you just have to keep your chats short and sweet. It didn’t work, I’ve been off work sick with a chest infection so didn’t have the energy to fight him.

A friend offered to be with me, I said I’d be fine, I didn’t need a babysitter. He kept insisting and I kept saying no I’ll be fine. I also didn’t want Ben to walk in on him in my house. I know he’d jump to the wrong conclusions – he’d see a fellow soldier – a Captain but from a different battalion, someone I’ve always got on with and I knew he’d make assumptions so it would just be easier to be alone.

As times goes on, I’m finding out more and  more and beginning to realise that Ben isn’t the man I met in 2009  who promised me he was so different to Nick. 8 years down the line I’ve found out the hard way.

Tomorrow, I return to work. Tomorrow I return to work in a long-sleeved top. Tomorrow I have another bruise to try and hide.

Two beds and a coffee machine
